Bakery Masa Madre

A new place at Kitay-Gorod that takes some skill to find. This bakery is hidden in the backyard of the famous Salt House at Solyanka Street. The place is full of wood and light and air saturated with the aromas of locally-baked bread. There’s monkey bread with cinnamon, a no-frills interior with attention to every little detail, and a small, but self-sufficient menu from chef Roman Palkin: stracciatella with apricots, focaccia with salami (do not fear its size, the focaccia is super airy), and a green salad with duck breast. There is also an open bakery to watch, the friendly staff of Masa Madre, girlish laughter, people with laptops engaged in negotiations and people on romantic dates, early breakfasts, and all the other attributes of vibrant city life.
