Copen 57

A new cozy bistro in the Patriarch’s Ponds area, featuring cuisine by St. Petersburg chef Alexander Pimenov, is a hymn to Danish modernism. It’s done in light, warm tones and natural materials: linen, ceramic, wood, with bright decorative accents here and there.

Pimenov, who trained in Copenhagen, has installed a kitchen here without wow-factor presentations or a strong Nordic slant, but with a cozy multiculturalism. For instance, lamb tartare with onion aioli sits alongside potato smørrebrød and muksun sugudai, while broccoliini gnocchi with straccino is paired with charlotte cake and crème anglaise.

Overall, it’s a Scandinavian flair and friendly minimalism that is still hard to find in Moscow. This style suits the Patriarch’s Ponds area perfectly, whose bustling restaurant scene was long overdue for a little refresh.
